Fine, $50. [Just lowkey buy you lunch sometime] I'd still be getting a great steal with $60 though. I mean one day your works going to be worth way more than that.
[He turns the device over in his hands, before holding it out to Elliot again.]
I have a couple of deadlines to meet, but I have the outline now so I will work on mock up for you to evaluate. It should be ready by the end of next week.
N-not at first, but I think if you had a good enough reason... you can be pretty intense, so maybe?
[He sighs and shakes his head]
I have discipline for music because I care about it. But my family's been trying to get me to join the military for years, and I've never liked it. I've been to military camps, training programs, classes ... they'd even hint around military school every time my grades would start to slip.
So knowing that I had to deal with that stuff in my other life? It's...not really a happy thought.
But if you don't have the passion or something, why force you to take up a career in it? A career in the military must be a vocation, more than anything.
[He's assuming that Elliot's family may be veterans and the like. That's the only reason he can think of to push the military that hard.]
... But, I see. If it mirrors a path you didn't want to take in this life, I can see why you'd prefer to be rid of it.
Family tradition, mostly. My family's full of military, police - even my brother's a firefighter. Heroes. My aunt and uncle's fine with music as a hobby, but anything more... [He imitates a deeper voice] "You can do whatever you like Elliot, but keep your mind open to what's really important." [He shakes his head and returns to his normal voice] And they've made it very clear what they consider important.
[He sighs and shakes his head]
Sorry, I shouldn't complain. I could have much worse, I know. I mean my friend got thrown out for refusing to join the military. My family's not that bad.
But...yeah, that's it. I wanna know more about the people I see in my visions. I really do, and I want them to be okay. But it's not a life I wanna live...
I would not consider the military more important than artistic pursuits. Art influences all things in the word, from the shade of clothing on your back from season to season, to the colour you paint your home. The books people enjoy, the songs on the radio. Without it there would be stark, bare gaps in people's lives and their enjoyment of them.
[Not that... police and firefighters aren't important, but the dismissal of something that threads through everyone's lives so deeply irks him.]
But you are here, at Recolle university, and what you choose to study is up to you.

I know. Music really inspires and moves people, and it can do so much. Just like art. [He could go on about the amazingness of music ok] It's not that they hate that stuff, they just think it's less of a priority.
[And thus for someone else to get involved in, not someone from their family]
Haha, yeah ... if I can figure out how to pay for my schooling all myself. Right now, they're footing part of the bill. So they still get a say in what I study. That's why I'm that law class right now. I mean, the professor's great but...it's really not my thing.
If it were no longer part of their lives, perhaps they would think differently.
[But that's not going to happen.]
... Have you considered scholarships, if you're not already in one? I was able to get one for my art course, which covers a fair bit of major costs. It's... difficult to get, but you have the drive and skills to prove you would be worthy of the support. Do you have certificates for musical grading, or pieces you have worked on independently?
C-Careful what you wish for, Yusuke. We already lost some colors and horses...
[IF MUSIC DISAPPEARS, IT WILL GET SO UGLY IN THIS HOUSEHOLD]
Y-Yeah, I've considered them. I wasn't able get some before, but I'm hoping to reapply now that I've been doing well this semester. Though my composing sure has slowed down with having to deal with all the Retrospec stuff.
I think there would be rioting if the music died...
[Y i k e s.]
You should do. You are talented enough to be considered, for certain. And you are a hard worker - now you've got recorded work here to back you up, I can't see why you'd be rejected.
Maybe some angrily worded letters and peaceful protesting would be more to your taste?
[ The love of music would come across, but without the violence and the fighting. ]
I am merely saying what is true. If you were slacking in your studies, or had poor compositions I would not hesitate to let you know. Only through critique can we improve and grow our skills.

Nuh-uh, no discounts. Your art deserves the full value. I'll pay $60!

... $50. [Elliot you literally give him food, which keeps him alive???] At most.
no subject
....$55? And some cookies.

$50, as I said. And no higher.

Aha, that's fine! I can wait.
Thank you so much, Yusuke. It'll be pretty nice not to have to look at that emblem all the time.

[He stares at the emblem a moment longer.]
Do you not enjoy finding out about your other life?
no subject
...Yusuke, does any part of me strike you as someone who belongs in the military?

You have the discipline for it. You are strict about practising your music, which is a skill that they would value in the military.
But if you are talking about participating in a battle...? I'm not sure.
Would you consider me to be a fighter?

Awww, thanks Yusuke. You're always really good at being encouraging.

Hehe, well, thanks anyway. I do appreciate it- even if you do have criticisms to tell me! Th-That's the only way I'll improve as a musician!
