Yes, that would be the comparison I would draw. Personas tend to have specialised elements though, as well as affinities for magic or physical abilities.

[ Goemon is a fighter, primarily. But can still use ice attacks. He can tell he difference in strength between the two though - what Goemon is more proficient in. ]

How would you learn about persona affinities?

[Do they just find out eventually or is it knowledge that's already there? ]

They don't tell you these things, do they?

When you get hit by an element your Persona is weak too and you hit the dirt.

Also logic. If you have a fire based Persona, it will likely be weak to ice.

My demon friend here is weak to dark magic and gun attacks. I guess it must be because he's a bird.

Most of the time, from what I remember. Figuring out enemies weaknesses was a guessing game until there was more information available.
