[ Akira actually possesses a lot of leader-like qualities, too bad he barely uses or acknowledges them. ]
It better be.
[ THEY ARE DRESSY FOR THE OCCASION. They enter the bar and it's rather luxurious inside, not your usual sushi place. Akira processes his reservation with the hostess quickly and they're seated at a nice corner with a window.
Picking up the menu, Akira squints at the prices. They're affordable, but still on the pricey side of affordable. ]
Once they're sat down, Yusuke has a look over the menu as well, finger dragging down the choices, and hovering over the few that appeal to him. ]
I have some extra money this month from commissions over Christmas. [ He doesn't elaborate on what kind of commissions, sOMEONE funded one of them. ] But it would irresponsible to spent it all...
[ Hm. ]
There are some very tasty looking set options around the $25 mark - is that a reasonable amount?
I have a small pool of money to use for occasions like these, so I'm good... But that sounds like a good limit.
[ There's only the two of them, too. It shouldn't be hard and shouldn't burn through their wallet. It's also Yusuke's special day... So Akira has a surprise later. For now, he thumbs through the menu. ]
We can share, so let's order something different. I'll probably get the nigiri platter?
[ It looks pretty good. The waiter does slide over to ask about drinks. Akira asks for water for himself. ]
[ He's looking through the menu as well, before tapping his finger against one of the options. ]
Should I get a roll selection...? It would probably complement well. [ There are a couple of Americanised ones in the selection but it all sounds good.
Drinks are easy though. Water is always important. ]
[ Yes... And Akira is glad that he decided to save money—though before he started a life with friends, he wasn't sure what to do with it aside from spend it on some games, films, books.
But it's a lot more fulfilling spent on other. He flips over to the roll section, scanning through the descriptions. ]
[ Akira hums thoughtfully as his eyes stray to the spicy tuna roll. He does like tune... And he is training himself in the spicy art. He taps on the table once, twice.
[ It is a good, good idea. Sharing food is always good. ]
Not even a fully vegetarian style one? [ Oh. He scrolls through the menu a little further, and looks over the tempura options. ] Yes, that sounds good.
So, a nigiri platter, a roll selection with spicy tuna and eel, and a selection of vegetable tempura. Anything else?
[ NO VEGGIE MAKIS FOR THEM. They're slowly breaching that 25 USD limit for both of them, but Akira kindly drops that it's his friend birthday. Unfortunately, not discount comes with that, but they do provide green tea ice cream for those celebrating.
With a sigh, Akira relents and orders with them, all that they planned. ]
How can you forget about your own birthday, Yusuke? Not judging, only curious.
[ Yusuke's eyes genuinely light up a little at the sight of food, and more so when the sauce dish is prepared, and he takes the opportunity to snap his own chopsticks and cast a thoughtful eye over the delicious looking food. ]
Yes. Time is very easy to lose track of, even more so if you are deeply involved in what you are doing.
[ He selects a piece of battered pumpkin from the selection, and dips it neatly in the sauce. ]
This piece is for coursework, but... I will need to consider exhibit entries sooner rather than later.
[ Akira isn't particular about which vegetable he gets, so he snatches whichever and dabs it into his own sauce. It's devoured almost instantly. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. ]
My exams are already coming up. [ Dramatic sigh... ] But do you have any idea what you want to enter? A theme... Maybe a motif?
[ Please don't use the dirty 'E' word, Akira. He's enjoying his meal and doesn't want it spoiled with bad language. It's very good tempura, he's absolutely having more. ]
Well, the piece I was working on is for my exam. But the exhibition pieces...
[ Hmm. ]
I enjoy drawing people. If I can come up with a theme for it, I might make people my focus point. We are naturally drawn to other people, after all. It'll draw attention.
[ HE'S INNOCENT AND WHOLESOME JUST FOR THIS MOMENT. CALM. ]
That's true. Most people feel they can relate best when they see someone similar to them, after all... Though people, themselves, put barriers to keep themselves separated.
[ But enough of that talk. Akira through his bag to take out a small box... Then he apparently brought another birthday present in a bag with him. He places them on the table and gentle slides it to Yusuke.
True. But if I focus on people in their element - when they are happiest, and when they are engaged in something they enjoy... I think that would be a good place to pull elements that resonate with an audience from.
[ His attention is peaked by the appearance of the box - as he takes more tempura. Mmmyeah. Veggies.
The box sliding does actually drag his attention from the delicious food, and what's inside catches his attention more than anything. He's not about to unfold the kigurumi at the table, but it does get a good look over, as does the palette. ]
This looks very comfortable! [ AND CUTE. ] Thank you.

[ Perhaps those are qualities he had in that other world and other life as well as here. True leadership skills. ]
It must be good, for a queue this long.

A roll would be cool. What are your options?
[ Have you narrowed it down, Yusuke? ]

[ He wants to get some meat based ones as well, at least one. They could get both the crab and the eel ones if they're feeling flush and decadent. ]
no subject
Okay. ]
Go big or go home—let's get eel.
no subject
So, spicy tuna roll, eel rolls... and I suppose something with some vegetables in. Cucumber?
no subject
He may also like how it feels— ]
Cucumber and avocado is in most of the rolls. [ Hmmm, but if Yusuke is looking for more veggies. ] We can order a side of tempura vegetables?

... I lost track of the time and date. I know which day my birthday is, but I wasn't aware it was... that day.
[ A h em. ]
I was painting. [ That should explain everything. ]
no subject
That makes sense. Time flies by really fast... And you only realize how long it actually has been when you take a break and hit pause.
[ Breaking his chopsticks in half, he preps them with a small dish filled with tonkatsu sauce for them to use as a dip. ]
Is this for your exhibit entry?
no subject
Yes. Time is very easy to lose track of, even more so if you are deeply involved in what you are doing.
