An outfit's totally different from something permanent! I can't wash it off, I already tried!
[Don't worry, you can check him out all you want. :eyes:]
My parents are going to kill me! I can't hide this from them! [He sighs a little, running his fingers over one of the patterns.] ....But these are also way too cool! Why are they so cool?! My other self has awesome taste! Look at the patterns!
[ Who'd've thought Izumi Miyamura was so brazen, stripping on camera. But it's... surprisingly, how extensive they are. Imaging Izumi getting these here was ... difficult. Especially given that reputable tattoo salons would turn him away, come to think of it? ]
There are ways to hide tattoos, if you're that concerned. It would be a shame though - the designs are very unique and creative.
[IT DOESN'T COUNT AS STRIPPING IF HE ALREADY HAD HIS SHIRT OFF! ....And he's too young to legally get a tattoo without parental permission, so there's that.]
Mao told me I should hide them as long as possible, since I can't really explain how I got them done. I have no idea how I managed to get these as a high schooler in Japan....
[ Someone's going to be grounded until he's 50... ]
Yes, that would probably be an idea. It's cooler right now, so you can cover up with long sleeves and layers...
But in the summer you might need to think about alternatives. There are some foundation based make ups that are made to cover things like scarring and tattoos... however you'd need to reapply it every day...
You can see them through white shirts, but most other shirts cover them up just fine, since the one on my is high enough for short sleeves to hide too. I guess I'll just never wear white....
[S I G H]
Yeah, but I'd also just get makeup all over my sleeves! I can never go swimming again, or sleep with my shirt off, or take a shower and walk back to my room without bringing a full change of clothes....
... At the risk of sounding "out there" or ridiculous... maybe it's worth just telling your parents. I imagine they will be very cross, but ultimately they should get over it, given some time.
[ I mean. Izumi's mother hadn't told him to cover up his new tattoo at work after he'd got it done... ]
I'm pretty sensitive to temperature as it is, but I don't think that's the reason.
[He tilts his head in thought, pulling his shirt back down and leaning back in his chair.]
It's an idea.... But I talked to Mao and Hinata before this too, and Hinata said that people not on Retrospec stop noticing changes like that after a while. So if he's right, maybe I can hold out until that happens.
He said around a month, but I have no idea if I should put my faith in that. What if it doesn't work? I mean, at least we're not in Japan, but.... What was the other me thinking? How did he live like that?!
... I'm not really sure. It's up to you - if it isn't a month, then you've plenty of time before it gets too warm to not wear short sleeves to see if it's longer. But the window of opportunity to tell your parents would likely be gone...
A good question though. The other you was still living in Japan?
Yeah.... I think I'll try to hold out and see what happens. I can always just be honest and say that I was worried about telling them, if it comes to that, since I think they'll be equally mad.
[He hums just a little bit, leaning on his elbows.]
Yeah, I was definitely in Japan! Which is weird, right?! It doesn't make sense! Outside of not being able to go to an onsen or public bath, how did I even get tattoos as a high schooler in the first place?!
Ah, so you're figuring out ways to minimise the damage either way. Very wise.
[ How strange. He knows how strict things are on tattoos back home, and the idea of an underage teenager getting a tattoo seems almost impossible. ]
Did you design them yourself? But there's no way you'd be able to actually do the tattoo yourself. I'm not sure. Did you know someone in the tattooing industry...?
I'm not sure.... Maybe I did. Even after talking to Mao and Hinata about them for a while, I haven't remembered anything. But I probably will eventually, right?
[Except his dreams are going to be crushed since THERE'S LITERALLY NO INFORMATION ABOUT HOW HE GOT THEM IN THE WEBCOMIC OR MANGA OR ANYTHING, I'VE LOOKED EVERYWHERE]
It would clear things up for you a little, contextually, if you did, yes.
[ RIP MIYAMURA. ]
... It might depend on how many showed up and where. If it gets to the point that you just can't hide them, then you'll have to come clean. Luckily, things aren't as strict about tattoos here... and you're into the second half of your final year at high school now, correct?
Well, yeah.... I have long sleeves on in a lot of my memories, but I've had a few without them, so I'm pretty sure there aren't any tattoos on my legs or the rest of my arms. But for all I know, the rest of my body could be covered.
[What if he has yakuza back tattoos, WHAT THEN?]
I'm still a junior, but I should be able to keep them hidden in school. It's my parents that worry me.... But I'm going to hope what Hinata said about people getting used to it is true.
I suppose you will find out as time goes on - both in terms of the amount of tattoos, and whether people will just come to see them as normal. I will cross my fingers and hope that it is soon.
[ then he is a BadAss. ]
... And suggest you look into camouflage make up just in case. Better to be prepared, yes? Until you have graduated, and the school system cannot penalise your alternative art creativity.
Do you really think the school could do anything about it? It isn't a private school, so I'm less worried about that than my parents grounding me for life.
... Well, they can't take it off your skin or demand you go through a removal process. Also your parents can't ground you for life, you're legally not under their control once you're 18, I believe.
I made it out alive when I pierced my ears in middle school, so that's something, I guess. But you know my mom.... She'll say turning 18 doesn't change anything. But I still have a year and a few months to go, so I guess we'll see.
I can't wait to show you these in person, though! They're even cooler in real life!
I would argue that what you do with your own body is your choice, but... I'm not sure I would be willing to get into an argument with your mother on your behalf. If I am to be entirely honest.
I will look forward to seeing them! From what little I saw there, it does seem like the other you had good taste in body art.

Yes, they do that sometimes. I got a strange outfit from them once.
[ He's definitely examining that body art, dude. Lookin' cool. ]
I didn't take you for a tribal design sort of guy...

I'm not really sure what to suggest. Some makeup is water resistant, but you are shooting down a lot of my ideas.

... Do you know how long that could be? Best case scenario, it's all sorted before summer, otherwise you could be quite... overly warm.
